XO Platform Conversion formerly known as 9Net Avenue

This page describes the migration process for XO customers who have services on the legacy 9NetAve platform, accessed via http://cp.xo.com. If you do not currently use http://cp.xo.com as your administration portal, these instructions do not apply to you! Only the legacy 9NetAve platform is being decommissioned -- all other XO/Concentric customers are on the current ongoing platform and are not impacted by these instructions!

This web page will be updated if we find common questions that we missed, so check back here for new information.

An email message was sent October 23-26, 2007, to the email addresses on record for domains still hosted on the legacy platform. That email contains a new password and a numerical support ID which you will need to complete the migration process to the new Concentric hosting platform. Your DNS service is already on the Concentric platform and has been for several years. You can cut email and web service to the Concentric platform at any time before November 29. On November 29, we will cut DNS for the remaining services on the legacy platform, which will be decommissioned on December 4th. You will need to make sure that all your files and stored emails are downloaded before December 4th, 2007, when the legacy platform is permanently shut down.

What you need to do
  • The first step is to log into your new Concentric account. The login and password were provided in the email you received; if you did not receive or have discarded that email, see below for how to contact Care to gain access to your account. Log into your concentric account here: http://admin.concentric.com

  • When you log in, after some introductory screens, you will be logged into the Concentric Gateway with its library of account and user tools. The login we provided you is a master administrator, giving it full access to the features of your account.

  • Your Concentric account has been set up on the Domain Manager plan, which provides the basic DNS service for your account. Since the Concentric plans do not line up directly with the legacy 9NetAve service plans (but are almost universally less expensive or have higher quotas), you have the opportunity to select your own service plan as appropriate for your needs. To do this, select Account | Controls | Change Service Plan from the menu bar. You'll be presented with several plan options. Note that the first list are standard plans with UNIX CGI tools. Windows plans are also available with the 'View Windows Hosting Plans' link; these plans support ASP.net and other IIS-specific features. NOTE that you will receive a month of service free upon upgrading your account to a hosting plan.

  • Once you've selected a plan, you can create and configure users of your account. To do this, select from the menu 'Menu Map | Users | Add New'. You can add your users here for email and, once added, edit further settings including turning on spam filtering (recommended). Users will continue to receive email on the legacy platform until DNS is changed. Please note that if you do not change plans you will stay on the Domain Manager plan, which is $7.95 a month.

  • To publish your website, you can use ftp (to ftp.concentric.com before DNS is cut), logging in as the admin@domain user and password sent in email, or you can use the File Manager application in the Concentric Gateway, or you can use FrontPage publishing. Full details on all publishing mechanisms are available in online documentation -- the 'Help' link in the upper right corner of the Concentric Gateway.

  • Once you've set up email and your web site, you can migrate service before the November 29 date if desired by using Concentric's DNS Manager. To do this, select 'Menu Map | DNS Manager' and then 'File | Open Zone File'. Select your domain (you may have more than one), open it, and then select 'Manage Zone | View/Edit Records.' Choose 'All records' from the pulldown, and when your records pop up, checkmark the 'delete' box on the left of each record, then hit 'Update'. This will remove all the DNS pointing your domain services to the legacy platform and will automatically point services to the Concentric platform. You can also do just email or just web services by deleting the email (and MX) record, or the www record, separately. If you'd rather not touch DNS, this will be done for you on November 29th. In either case, you may need to restart your browser/mail client to see the DNS change, which otherwise takes 15-30 minutes to propagate.
Help is available online, as stated above, in the 'Help' link in the upper right corner of the Concentric Gateway. You can also get help with your Concentric account at any time via careprem@concentric.com, or via phone at 1 866 495 9696 (+1 469 385 2242 outside the US). Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns.
